~Messenger Of God~

It's really amazing that the messenger of God "Jesus Christ" got all these curiosity about his life and what is exactly happened in his short life.
But I don't want to talk about the claiming of his marriage because there is no reliable source or evidence about that and I don't think he got married to "Mary Magdalene or any other woman" because he had Holy Mission that filled his life and nothing could made him interest and concern but spreading God's word.
Few Months ago, a series episodes of program called "Son Of God" broadcasted in BBC Prime. I watched maybe one episode and I was shocked when they said that Jesus Christ went to bars and mixed with drunkers and prostitutes, and even "…" !!!!
That was really nasty and ugly thing to claim of… a holy man like Jesus will never got any kind of relation with prostitutes or sinful people except calling them to return to God and seek for his Forgiveness.
***
Let us review what Holy Koran said about his mother, his birth and his mission.

******************
This is Surah Maryam "Mary" from 16-36:

~~~****~~~
وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ مَرْيَمَ إِذِ انتَبَذَتْ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا مَكَانًا شَرْقِيًّا
And make mention of Mary in the Scripture, when she had withdrawn from her people to a chamber looking East,
فَاتَّخَذَتْ مِن دُونِهِمْ حِجَابًا فَأَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْهَا رُوحَنَا فَتَمَثَّلَ لَهَا بَشَرًا سَوِيًّا
And had chosen seclusion from them. Then We sent unto her Our spirit and it assumed for her the likeness of a perfect man.
قَالَتْ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِالرَّحْمَن مِنكَ إِن كُنتَ تَقِيًّا
She said: Lo! I seek refuge in the Beneficent One from thee, if thou art God fearing.
قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَنَا رَسُولُ رَبِّكِ لِأَهَبَ لَكِ غُلَامًا زَكِيًّا
He said: I am only a messenger of thy Lord, that I may bestow on thee a faultless son.
قَالَتْ أَنَّى يَكُونُ لِي غُلَامٌ وَلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِي بَشَرٌ وَلَمْ أَكُ بَغِيًّا
She said: How can I have a son when no mortal hath touched me, neither have I been unchaste!
قَالَ كَذَلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ وَلِنَجْعَلَهُ آيَةً لِلنَّاسِ وَرَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَكَانَ أَمْرًا مَّقْضِيًّا
He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me. And (it will be) that We may make of him a revelation for mankind and a mercy from Us, and it is a thing ordained.
فَحَمَلَتْهُ فَانتَبَذَتْ بِهِ مَكَانًا قَصِيًّا
And she, conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a place.
فَأَجَاءهَا الْمَخَاضُ إِلَى جِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ قَالَتْ يَا لَيْتَنِي مِتُّ قَبْلَ هَذَا وَكُنتُ نَسْيًا مَّنسِيًّا
And the pangs of childbirth drove her unto the trunk of the palm tree. She said: Oh, would that I had died ere this and had become a thing of naught, forgotten!
فَنَادَاهَا مِن تَحْتِهَا أَلَّا تَحْزَنِي قَدْ جَعَلَ رَبُّكِ تَحْتَكِ سَرِيًّا
Then (one) cried unto her from below her, saying: Grieve not! Thy Lord hath placed a rivulet beneath thee,
وَهُزِّي إِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ تُسَاقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَبًا جَنِيًّا
And shake the trunk of the palm tree toward thee, thou wilt cause ripe dates to fall upon thee.
فَكُلِي وَاشْرَبِي وَقَرِّي عَيْنًا فَإِمَّا تَرَيِنَّ مِنَ الْبَشَرِ أَحَدًا فَقُولِي إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ لِلرَّحْمَنِ صَوْمًا فَلَنْ أُكَلِّمَ الْيَوْمَ إِنسِيًّا
So eat and drink and be consoled. And if thou meetest any mortal, say: Lo! I have vowed a fast unto the Beneficent, and may not speak this day to any mortal.
فَأَتَتْ بِهِ قَوْمَهَا تَحْمِلُهُ قَالُوا يَا مَرْيَمُ لَقَدْ جِئْتِ شَيْئًا فَرِيًّا
Then she brought him to her own folk, carrying him. They said: O Mary! Thou hast come with an amazing thing.
يَا أُخْتَ هَارُونَ مَا كَانَ أَبُوكِ امْرَأَ سَوْءٍ وَمَا كَانَتْ أُمُّكِ بَغِيًّا
Oh sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a wicked man nor was thy mother a harlot.
فَأَشَارَتْ إِلَيْهِ قَالُوا كَيْفَ نُكَلِّمُ مَن كَانَ فِي الْمَهْدِ صَبِيًّا
Then she pointed to him. They said How can we tale to one who is in the cradle, a young boy?
قَالَ إِنِّي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ آتَانِيَ الْكِتَابَ وَجَعَلَنِي نَبِيًّا
He spoke: Lo! I am the servent of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet,
وَجَعَلَنِي مُبَارَكًا أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُ وَأَوْصَانِي بِالصَّلَاةِ وَالزَّكَاةِ مَا دُمْتُ حَيًّا
And hath made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and hath enjoined upon me prayer and alms giving so long as I remain alive,
وَبَرًّا بِوَالِدَتِي وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْنِي جَبَّارًا شَقِيًّا
And (hath made me) dutiful toward her who bore me, and hath not made me arrogant, unblest.
وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيَّ يَوْمَ وُلِدتُّ وَيَوْمَ أَمُوتُ وَيَوْمَ أُبْعَثُ حَيًّا
Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!
ذَلِكَ عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ قَوْلَ الْحَقِّ الَّذِي فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ
Such was Jesus, son of Mary: (this is) a statement of the truth concerning which they doubt.
مَا كَانَ لِلَّهِ أَن يَتَّخِذَ مِن وَلَدٍ سُبْحَانَهُ إِذَا قَضَى أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ
It befitteth not (the Majesty of) Allah that He should take unto Himself a son. Glory be to Him! When He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only: Be! and it is.
وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُوهُ هَذَا صِرَاطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ
And lo! Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So serve Him. That is the right path.
~~~****~~~
(Our spirit=Holy Spirit=Gabriel /Gebreel=the most important ANGEL that came to all of Messengers of God.)

******************

Ayaht "verses" # 75 and 116 from Surah "Chapter" Almaeda:
~~~****~~~
مَّا الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ إِلاَّ رَسُولٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِ الرُّسُلُ وَأُمُّهُ صِدِّيقَةٌ كَانَا يَأْكُلاَنِ الطَّعَامَ انظُرْ كَيْفَ نُبَيِّنُ لَهُمُ الآيَاتِ ثُمَّ انظُرْ أَنَّى يُؤْفَكُونَ
The Messiah, son of Mary, was no other than a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) had passed away before him. And his mother was a saintly woman. And they both used to eat (earthly) food. See how we make the revelations clear for them, and see how they are turned away!
~~~****~~~
And when Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! Didst thou say unto mankind: Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah? he saith: Be glorified It was not mine to utter that to which I had no right. If I used to say it, then Thou knewest it. Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy mind. Thou, only Thou art the Knower of Things Hidden.

******************

Now, as you can see, the holy Koran defined Jesus as a prophet and a Messenger Of God not a Son Of God. This is more reasonable to me.
We love all Messengers Of God and we name our kids after them hoping they will be good and devoted like them in the future.

* I copied the translation of the verses from a CD I have.

Very interesting 2 see Jesus thru Muslim eyes: I appreciate it very much. As I cannot call myself a Christian, I'm sure Tristan can point out interesting quotes.

"holy man like Jesus will never got any kind of relation with prostitutes or sinful people except calling them to return to God"

I remember a quote: "I've come to call the sinners, not the righteous"
- or something like that... meaning sinful people need love and forgiveness the most.

and:
"Jesus as a prophet and a Messenger Of God not a Son Of God. This is more reasonable to me."
Jesus is a Son of God. So am I. You are a Daughter of God. Maybe Jesus and the other Messengers are "Older Brothers" who know the Way and can bring the message to us.

Heaven's Light be upon you.

Actually, the Koran didn't say Jesus wasn't the son of God. That's what it doesn't say. Interesting.

What is says is that Jesus and Mary are not part of the triune God, and then Jesus says if I ever said those things then God would surely know it. What we have here is a historical occurance in the Koran in which Mohammad had come accross a religous deviation from Christianity -a fringe group which formed a cult which taught that Mary was part of the trinity.

Yet Christianity has never taught this. And that is what the Koran agrees upon.

My Qur'an (Koran) reads: 19He said: "Nay, I am only a messenger from thy Lord, (to announce) to thee the gift of a holy son.

In your translation is says "faultless" instead of "holy." What is the literal meaning the the Arabic word here? And could it also mean "sinless?"

This is one of the most important verses in the Qur'an for me. The only verse I value more than this one is Surah 10:94.

-This part neither claims nor denies the Son of God. Although I don't know the implied "meaning" of the original Arabic, the English is quite clear: God (Allah) has no use or need for a son. This is true. Christianity also agrees about this.

The difference between Islam and Christian belief here is that Christians realize God doesn't need a son, but that humanity did. This is why Christ is refered to as "the Son of Man."

Yeah, but my point is that if surah 19 in Maryam contradicts, or counteracts other surahs... then that's when the glitch occurs.

(112:4) And there is none like unto Him.

I know what the Qur'an says here, but it's vagueness gives us a direct reason to misread it. I mean, it doesn't give us any infromation other than God doesn't need a Son. To "beget" means to create... if Mary was a Virgin mother, and Allah didn't have any involvement in the creation of the Christ child... when who is the creator? Is not a creator a father of all things?

Again, the Qur'an if vague on this subject, and it doesn't reference the historical evidence (which does exist). So how do we know for sure?

(Surah 10:94) If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee: the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in no wise of those in doubt.

Ah! Mohammad and Muslims are commanded by Allah to ask Jews and Christians (people of the book) about the infromation of the prophets. Why? Because the Bible has a more in depth account of each prophets life, starting with Adam, Moses, and going all the way to Jesus.

So the Qur'an refers to the Bible when it is too vague, and it tells all Muslim peoples that it is OKAY to have a discourse with Christians and Jews (people of the book). That it is alright according to Allah to "talk" about these things when you want to know more answers that (perhaps) the Qur'an has only "refered" to.

But the problem is, many Muslims and Christians don't want to talk to each other. We don't have to agree, but the Noble Qur'an on Allah's authority gives us the RIGHT to talk about these things.

The other neat thing about (Surah 10:94) is that is says, "then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee: the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord" meaning that the Bible also comes from God (Allah).

This is important to remember, because many Muslims take the parts of the Qur'an which talk about the "corruption" of the Bible out of context. Mohammad was aware that there were 'perverters' to the word of God. Mohammad even knew that there were Jews who did not know the Bible well! To him this was a shock and a disgrace because he realized that the Bible and the Qur'an come form God (Allah).

The Qur'an tells that the Bible has been corrupted by those who "conjecture" but it never has said that the people of the Book (devout Christians) who truly know the real Bible have ever done anything of the sort.

5/27/2006 11:31 AM
Blogger Tristan Vick said...

One last point.

If the Qur'an if infallible because it is God's word (Allah's word), and Allah's word says that the Bible is also from God, that Allah created them *both...

Then how can the Bible be corrupt? This would mean Allah's word has been corrupted before and after Mohammad, and this would mean that the Qur'an could be corrupt also? No! Allah's word is infalible! This means the Bible is NOT corrupt. The Qur'an is not corrupt.

What the Qur'an means is that man's interpritations of the Bible are corrupt! But God's word (Bible and Qur'an) can never be corrupt.

Tristan Vick,

Intresting tristan, since when have you become an expert scholar in the Quran?

Quran did not contradict itself. Its all woven togther to give one meaning .. it says in one verse that Allah doesnt need a son, and it says in another that he did not have a son .. so conclusion is:
he doesnt have a son, and doesnt actually need one!!

stop interpreting verses like this, we muslim who know how to read arabic and we wouldnt dare intrepreting the Quran without reading its explanation ..

Halalhippie: even if u r not Christian, u love and dignify Jesus. So, it's really nice thing even thought u looked at him in different way. I love him so much as I love all messengers of GOD, I even have a cousin named "Issa", name of Jesus in Arabic. Okay, they are "Older Brothers", or "Older Teachers", we are still respect and honor them.

Heaven's Lights be upon you too ;)

Tristan: very interesting!!
In fact, In that Surah, Jesus answered GOD and defending himself and his mother: (we didn't said we are gods, I have no right to say such thing, you know if I said that or not, you know everything even what I said or what is inside my heart, while I know nothing, Thou the Knower of the things unseen).
Therefore, it's clear in all these verses that Jesus just a servant and messenger of God. Actually, there are many Chapters and Verses can assure this in the holy Koran. But I can't put all of them, so I chose only these.
I don't think the word "holy" is right, because in Arabic "Zakeya" means faultless, virtuous, chaste, or sinless…etc!
And it is unquestionable that all the messengers should have these features and be good model and example for their peoples!

Surah Yunus (10.94)
فَإِن كُنتَ فِي شَكٍّ مِّمَّا أَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ فَاسْأَلِ الَّذِينَ يَقْرَؤُونَ الْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلِكَ لَقَدْ جَاءكَ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَلاَ تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُمْتَرِينَ "And if thou (Muhammad) art in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto thee, then question those who read the Scripture (that was) before thee. Verily the Truth from thy Lord hath come unto thee. So be not thou of the waverers"
The story: God told prophet Muhammed PBUH to told the Arab pagans to go and ask Jews who have the Scripture about his message because it's written in their Scripture about his message and his prophecy , and some Jews who converted to Islam at that time like Abdullah Bin Salam and others can help to say the truth!

The Calling of Matthew
9. As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

10. While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples.

11. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?"

12. on hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.'[a] For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

"t is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick" That's what I meant when I said he will go there to help sinners and sick people to see the good path and return to God. All messengers came when the sinners increase in their nations, they came to help the sinners and lead them to the right path.

Yes, we are worshippers of GOD as God said in the Holy Koran 51:56
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ "I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me"

Even though that God created us to worship him, but he loves us and wants to cover us with his mercy, becos he accept any one repeats his/her sins over and over as long as he/she is repent after that and wants to stop committing sins and return to God.
I agree with u, this is much easier 2 discuss than Palestine case

Thanks. I'm not a professional *theologist or anything, but theology is a huge interest and hobby of mine.

My degrees are in English Literature, Criticism, and History. I guess, if I ever get another degree it will probably be in theology or religion.

My credentials aren't, do I know what I'm talking about? Because half the time I'm still learning. But my credentials are, I'm well read, I know how to research, I have the knowledge to back up what I say, and that's good enough to base most arguements on. Mostly I enjoy reading and learning. Thank you for your compliments!
